#7 What is my life purpose?
By Andrew Wilding
Top 8 questions about hypnotherapy #7: What is my life purpose? How to find direction in life?
Wise spiritual masters always say that no-one can tell you what your life purpose is, only you can know that. I agree, although I must add that there are always people who can help you.
Your life purpose is usually something you feel as a child. It may not be literal, like being an actual doctor, or Spiderman, but the essence of it will be in how you played during your first 10 years. Some people are very aware of it, and make their directional life decisions like studying according to their childhood desires of “what I want to be when I grow up.” Some people are told as children that they could not possibly know what they want at that age, and make their life directional decisions according to outside advice or logical conclusions. Either way: If you do not know your life’s purpose, you may find these 3 questions helpful:
1. Have you ever given up something that you really enjoyed because you could not afford it financially?
2. Have you ever given up something that you really enjoyed because you had a bad experience and you don’t want to go back to it?
3. Have you ever given up something that you really enjoyed because so many things went wrong and you now believe that it was not meant to be?
My survey showed that 98% already know what makes them happy,
but they have lost faith and forgotten about it.
Knowing what you want in life is one thing – it is another thing entirely to choose the right direction that you need to take in order to arrive where you want to be. Sometimes “life direction” is not as simple as just going after what you want, you may have to take a tangent, or a series of tangents, toward something that is not your ultimate goal, but that inches you closer until your ultimate goal is within reach. It’s a lot like sailing upwind.
As your intuition will tell you, you can not sail directly into the wind – you will go backwards! But long ago, ancient mariners discovered that you can reach a destination against the wind by making a series of “tacks” – as many as you need – and eventually you will get there. Each tack is a seemingly different direction in life, with a goal to be accomplished before you tack into a new direction with a new goal. This strategy gives you the traction that you need to reach the goal that you really want. This concept is the core of my motivational courses.
